RESCUED HORSES
1.  CHEYENNE:  Paint
Born with a parrot mouth (over bite). The breeder could not show or breed her due to this problem.                                                                             .
2.  SUNDANCE:  Appaloosa
Abandoned

3.  JH DANDY DESIGN: aka (GIN): Appaloosa
August 2000 Gin came to us with hoof  problems and in corrective shoes. Signs of previous leg injury and arthritis. At age 12 she is now coming a lot nicely. Gin is now riding and recognizing  leg cues. She is the sweetest horse and is doing great with those who have never been around horses. After all the years that Gin gave to the volunteers and young people of OSER’S programs, a bone spur on the nervicular bone rubbing in to the deep flexor tendon and other medical issues made it necessary to put her down July of 2008. She is so missed by all.

4.  CALLAGHAN:  Thoroughbred
Born with deformed tendons and ligaments in front legs. He walked on his pasterns. Owner order him removed the mare only a few days after he was born. After surgery he is doing well. He would have been destroyed.

5.  CHESTER:  Andalusian X

7.  SUNSHINE: Paint
5 year old Mare came to us in 2003 with wire cut scars on the hind leg to the bone and to the back of the bulb of the hoof. She would try to kick when you ask her to pick up her hind hooves. Sunshine now helps with summer camps and children’s clinics. She is a wonderful horse.

8. CHINERAY aka WILLIE:   Thoroughbred
Race horse lost left eye at Retama Race Track when the horse in front of him kicked up a rock. The owner wanted him to have a home, instead of destroying him.

9. GREY GABLES OPALINA aka (OPAL): Percheron
5 years old. In 2006 Opal came to us with issues of being to disrespect full. With her size she intimidation was easy. Teaching her to be respectful with picking up her hooves and leading without pulling away took a little time. She rides and is a bigger horse than most have seen.

A trainer friend called us at approximately 11:00 PM one night on the way from Kingsville to Retama Equine Hospital. The DVM in Kingsville told the trainer and owner she needed colic surgery. When the owners found out the cost of colic surgery they declined to go forward. At this point we adopted Legacy in the middle of the night by fax so she could go to surgery. She made it through the first surgery but complications caused a second surgery which she did not survive. Her foal was also lost.

(Unknown cause of injury) The owners opted to place her with us to see if she would have a chance of recovery. So far so good. It will be a long haul. She came to us in September ‘06. Keep you posted on her progress.

26. ALWAYS IN PARADISE (MERLOT):
Merlot arrived July of ‘08 and is a wonderful 4 year old appaloosa that has a medical records file an inch thick. Feed sensitivities to alfalfa, corn and oats, colic issues due to possible adhesions from a previous colic surgery, hind quarters cut open through the muscle and more. He is progressing well. It looks like he will be able to help the youth learn about medical issues and is now going back to riding he will participate in the ‘09 Spring Horse Week and the Summer Day Camp.
Merlot is now 6 and has filled out and grown almost a hand taller.

27. KOTA: Warmblood Belgian

28. SECOND CHANCE (CHANCE): Throughbred
His former job was in 3 day eventing. He was use to being in a larger herd and did not do well traveling solo. He worked himself in to a major ulcer problem, resulting in several rounds of Gastro Guard.
Now he runs with his 2 best friends Willie and Callaghan and is retraining to be a calmer riding horse and has no ulcers or weight problems.

29. MOLLY KENNEDY (MOLLY): DONKEY
The latest rescue came in July of 2010 an 8 year old Donkey. The Kenedy Police Department brought her to us very under weight, with signs of previous founder and looked to be in foal. She had an albino jack born on Columbus Day and of course we named him Chris for his name sake.

   SUMMARY:

We are dedicating our life and financial resources to this project.
Outgrowing our previous facility we purchased 33 acres in Sutherland Springs, Texas. In of July 2005 we moved to our new location. The improvements to the new facility are ongoing with cross fencing repairing existing structures and moving the previous barn from its new home has been a quite a job. It is now 2011 and the refuge has grown to 35 and has reached its capacity. As they age and have an issues lead to lose of life, others horses will come in to the facility. With fundraising, grants and much needed volunteers the facility could be expanded to help more horses and the community through its programs. The Rescue/Refuge needs volunteers and funding to help with the daily operations of the rescue.
Let us know if you can help.
